贡嘎山位于四川省康定以南，是大雪山的主峰。周围有海拔6,000米以上的山峰45座，主峰更耸立于群峰之巅，海拔7,556米。高出其东侧大渡河6,000米，被喻为“蜀山之王”。主峰由花岗闪长岩组成，受海洋季风影响，形成多样的植被和自然生态环境，山间蜿蜒两条姐妹峡谷：燕子沟和海螺沟，其中燕子沟又被称为东方阿尔卑斯。贡嘎山雪线海拔4,600～4,700米，冰川发育规模较大。
